you have a jquery $.get with a jquery $each iterator inside it, so the
construction of the MarkerClusterer and fitting the map to the bounds
should happen after the $each has completed.
$.get(filename, function(data) {
$('waypoint', data).each(function() {
// parse XML
// create Marker
// add Marker to markers array
// extend bounds
});
markerClusterer = new MarkerClusterer(map, markers);
map.fitBounds(bounds);
},'xml');
