That error makes me think that you either have mismatched tags, or
that your script tag is outside of the head or body tags.
The other DOCTYPE posts you are referring to have to do with
specifying the height of the map. If you use a DOCTYPE and want your
map to be 100% tall, you'll need to add the following styles:
html, body { height: 100%; }
