It's because your map_canvas element has no width and height.
In Screen.css you have:
#map_canvas {
width:400; height:300;
border:1px;
}
The values 400 and 300 will not render in most browsers (and rightly
so).
ADD px to your values like so:
#map_canvas {
width:400px; height:300px;
border:1px;
}
