If you examine the images that constitute the tile layer, you will see that those icons are part of the tile images themselves. Theoretically, you could cover them up with another tile layer, however, that would require a lot of careful artwork and extreme attention to detail. The best you can do is use different icons and somehow explain to your users the issue.
