Having recently gone through API 3 with a fine-toothed comb I would say there is no such feature.
Keep in mind, whilst API 3 is organic enough to introduce new features (like we've seen Directions and Control Positioning in the past few months) there is no guarantee that it will be introduced any time soon if at all. You could keep an eye on this discussion group, however for now I'd say you would need to use API 2 for this feature.
