I understand why this happening and will have a fix in the next release.

In the mean time, I would recommend that you allow
the ApiDeadlineExceededException to propagate outside of your servlet in
cases where you are currently catching it (or rethrow another exception).
 This will trigger some logic that we have in place to detect JVMs that are
stuck in some kind of bad state, and it will shut down the instance for you
after a few consecutive failures.
