I've been going back and forth trying to decide whether to re-develop a mid-sized Facebook app (~10,000 daily users) on App Engine. The app relies heavily on REST calls and large batch jobs (that make up to 100,000 REST calls to FB's server). My goal is to eliminate server administration entirely and not having to worry about scaling at all. If I decide to use app engine, Java will be the language of choice due to my familiarity.
I was hoping fellow developers, who've used app engine for their projects, could post whether they regretted going this route? Perhaps you realized the platform was not as mature as you initially assumed? The datastore was not fast enough? The responsiveness was not what you expected? If you could go back and start over, would you choose app engine again? (From reading through various group posts, my biggest fear is that the speed and responsiveness of my app will diminish. Can good engineering overcome this obstacle?) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine for Java" group.
