I may be one of the few Perl Golfers who has played serious
competitive real golf also. Here in Sydney, we use the term
"sand-bagger" to describe someone who repeatedly performs
badly in minor events (to secure a good handicap) only to
win major events by sensationally playing "above himself".
Believe me, the "sand-bagger" is a social outcast, but
there is little you can do about it.
