We would have to make a clear decision as to the oldest amd64 processor we wanted to support. Right now I believe we support all amd64 processors. Are we ready to give up on old ones? I don't think it's worth adding a GOAMD64 environment variable for this. I don't think the gain is worth the complexity. Happy to be proven wrong.
