Greetings Gophers!
Planning for GopherCon, the world’s largest Go conference, is in full swing again! GopherCon 2017 will be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado on July 13th through July 15th, 2017. https://gophercon.com/ We started GopherCon in 2014 with the vision of just getting a couple hundred like minded people together and it has grown into an amazing event with a life of its own, thanks to all of you, the passionate members of the community. Last year we had record breaking attendance, and we anticipate the same for this year. *Multiple tracks* A big change for 2016 was moving multi-track and the survey says it was a hit, so we’re going to continue with that format with just a couple of changes. First, we’re going to bring everyone back together at the end of the day for a couple additional keynotes and give us all the opportunity to be in the same place for house notes, directing everyone to the events taking place, etc. The second change is that we’re going to try to theme each of the tutorial tracks to make it easier and more likely for attendees to choose which talks to attend. On day 1 and 2 we will feature 25-minute plenary talks in the main theater until lunch time. After lunch, we have secured additional space for three tracks of 45-minute tutorial sessions in the afternoon. Then we’ll all come back together just before we close out the show each day. The tutorial sessions will run in parallel. Everything will be recorded and available after the conference, so while it’s impossible to be in three places at once, you won’t miss out. The final day of the conference remains the same loosely organized day you’ve come to know and love, but with a new name! This year we will be calling it Community Day, which is much more inline with the spirit of the day. We will also be taking some lessons we’ve learned over the past couple years to make it easier for people to meet and find interesting projects to work on or interesting people to talk with. In addition, the Go community room was a huge hit last year, the room was packed. This year we’re going to ensure there is a lot more room for people to participate in these discussions with a stretch goal of having this forum live streamed for those who can’t attend in person. *The Call for Proposals is now open * GopherCon is you, the Go community, and we wouldn’t have a conference if it wasn’t for the fantastic presentations from Go community members. We want to see you on stage. We are proud of our tradition of featuring new speakers from the Go community, but we know that giving a talk in front of a thousand people isn’t easy. In 2015 & 2016, we offered speakers an opportunity to be paired with an experienced speaker and were very pleased with the results. Extending and improving on this tradition of mentorship, every speaker whose talk is accepted at GopherCon 2017 will be paired with a mentor to help them prepare and practice their talk. The call for proposals for plenary and tutorial sessions as well as workshops are now open and will run till midnight on January 31st, 2017. You can find out all the details and submit your proposal by visiting the proposals website, https://www.papercall.io/gophercon2017 *Workshop training* In addition to the conference proper we will be holding a workshop training day on July 12th. The workshop day will feature parallel tracks of training on various Go related topics. This year we have opened the CFP up for additional workshops. Have something unique you’d like to teach? We’d love to hear about it! Workshop passes will be available for purchase separately after the courses have been selected. *What are you waiting for? * Ticket sales for GopherCon 2017 are now open, including a limited number of early bird tickets. https://ti.to/gophercon/gophercon-2017 https://gophercon.com/ As always, we look forward to seeing this amazing community come together in July, and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to us gopher...@gopheracademy.com.
