Indeed. Apologies for the confusion. (During copyediting, when reading aloud, I got into the habit of emphasizing the word immediately following "only" to help detect misplaced modifiers. In this instance the additional emphasis resolved the ambiguity the way I wanted it, but not the way one would normally read it.
