That is a common behaviour of gateways.  The mail is decrypted to you.
If you have a not too old version of Kleopatra you could simple open the
second file with Kleopatra and read it with its integrated mime viewer.

Or just decrypt and parse the MIME stuff with other tools or your eyes
(in case they exceptionally didn't base64 encode all mails).
