Yes, what I mean by 'as expected' is I got the pop-up to select
separator options (tab, space, comma, etc.) and a file-save dialog.
After a couple of 'click next' tabs, I ended up with a good CSV.
Attempting to view it with a text editor worked fine, and attempting to
open with LibreOffice resulted in a dialog to set column, widths or
separators, special fields, etc.
I also did a search, ran an Account Report while viewing the results and
chose Export on the toolbar. I saved it with an html extension. Then I
opened a new spreadsheet in Libreoffice (not necessary, but I was
working in another at the time) and selected Sheet > Insert Sheet from
file, set my preferred options offered, browsed for the file and
inserted it. It came in fine, though it retained the formatting from
GnuCash which had a white background with serif font. So I selected the
entire sheet and right-clicked to the option of 'clear direct
formatting' which resulted in the cells being visible each with their
appropriate data.
I seem to recall long ago that OpenOffice doesn't like just opening HTML
in Calc. Sheet > Insert Sheet from file... is the way to go.
Note, I don't find the Account Report to be a great layout to manipulate
further for most of my use cases, so instead, I run Transaction Reports
for export/copy to spreadsheet, but sometimes it is just easier to do a
Find than craft the proper filters for the Transaction Report.

Adrien

The HTML file is fine but it does not come into open office well. Hence trying

I know I can copy and paste but I have raised the issue to see if it is a
problem with the code.
When you say it worked as expected, did it give you a dialog box to select
options and filename etc. because this is what I did not get.
It does not get as far as generating a file at all. It was not the pop up
dialog box that I saw, just a flicker on the side of the register as if the box
was hiding itself under the window but it was not there. As I said earlier, I
looked everywhere for it!
First off I will move to 5.17 and try again. No point worrying about 5.16 if
it is working in 5.17.
I will come back to say what happened.
