The approach discussed in this thread seems workable for rental properties. Attached is a sample rent Transaction Report. The transactions are shown in Assets:Rent Owing (ie A/R) account which could be used as a tenant rent report if the Debit/Credit column labels were changed to something like Paid/Owing so normal people like tenants or magistrates could understand it.
Rent due works well as a scheduled payment provided payments are actioned. As mentioned previously, Filtered reports ( or https://github.com/dawansv/gnucash-custom-reports?tab=readme-ov-file#examples ) would be useful for multiple properties/tenants etc. An unfortunate byproduct of this approach for those on cash accounting (ie almost everyone) is rent due appears as income when it is due even if it hasn't been paid. Tax reporting on a cash basis would require an end of year adjustment. Regards >
