Hi LSP
GnuCash only exists because of the countless hours of labour donated by
the many marvellous past and present volunteers in the GnuCash community
- it is literally a Free & Open Source Project.
Congratulations, you are now a GnuCash User, reaping the benefits of all
this work.

Are you ready to level up and become a GnuCash Contributor:
* Monitor and respond to questions on this list
* Improve the documentation so that others don't have your problem

From: https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Installation
Upgrading
When upgrading GnuCash, there is no need to uninstall previous versions.
It is a good practice to make a backup of your data and settings prior
to any upgrade in case anything goes wrong with the upgrade.

Thanks, OK, I see. Hmm, "decentralization" (aka, lack of unification /
consensus) strikes again.
I mean, it's a pity that the "installation" part is not grouped together
with the other two "documentations", ie:
https://gnucash.org/viewdoc.phtml?rev=5&lang=C&doc=help
https://gnucash.org/viewdoc.phtml?rev=5&lang=C&doc=guide
I didn't see that because I was focused on finding FAQ and documentation.
Never thought of such a decentralized state....

Hello everyone,
I'm a new user of GNUCash and have a basic but essential question:
I see that GNUCash is still a traditional software installed through a
setup file instead of through the Microsoft Store. As a result, is
there a
best, aka correct, way to update or upgrade GNUCash from version A to
version B?
I mean, for traditional software installed through a setup file, there
seem
to be three approaches to upgrade/update the software, but there is no
consensus:
A. Uninstall the current version, eventually reboot the computer, and
then
install the new version.
B. Do NOT uninstall the current one. Instead, run the setup file which
will replace the current version with the newer one. If the current
version is uninstalled, some user configurations or data will be lost.
C. Does not care. Either approach A or B is fine.
I've looked through the FAQ and a one-year archive without finding my
answer. Could someone please add this information to the FAQ?
Thank you! 😊
