Powershell is cross platform so with some modifications it should work on *nix.

Alternatively, you can use xdotool to input data: 
https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/en/man1/xdotool.1.html

I don't have a lot of handwritten receipts but the few that I did have the 
taggun API did read it correctly.

I think it is a very interesting extension of Gnucash capabilities. It
has been done by a Windows user, so far not cross-platform. That means
I can't test that method of inputting data.
