This statement period begins with a negative balance, so the very first transaction (the first in the whole ledger) is in the right column, it is a "charge" for $9,851.37. Where a business refunded me $7.99 that appears in the left column as a "payment". When I paid down the credit card balance, that payment for $9,843.38 also appears in the left column as a "payment".
