I agree with you Alan, I do the bookkeeping work and my accountant uses P&L and Balance Sheet that I send him at the end of the year.
Perhaps it depends on the size of the business but often one also needs to supply bank statement reconciliations for end of year tax returns too, but gnucash can do those too.
