Linux? Do you mean the Terminal? You don't need that for GnuCash. The download should go into your downloads folder; controlled by the browser you used to download it. Most browsers will allow you to open the folder that contains the download. It should be a .dmg file. For the Mac (I have an iMac), you double-click the .DMG file and then drag GnuCash to the Apps folder.
You should then be able to run GnuCash; the Mac will think it is "risky", so you have to (only once) tell it to open anyway. Sometimes, it doesn't open that first time and one needs to click on it again, but that hasn't happened to me for the last couple of versions. I have GnuCash on my iMac (M1, purchased last year)... it is fastest on the iMac, but I also have it on Windows and Linux. The data file is stored on a local NAS, so that all three computers can see it. I've been happy with GnuCash for my personal finances.
