Excellent advice. (Thanks for mentioning ChexSystems; I had not thought to freeze my record there too.) Not only is the freeze free, but temporarily lifting it, when you yourself are actually applying for a mortgage or other credit somewhere, is also free. (At least that's true for credit bureaus; I don't know if ChexSystems operates under the same rules.) The bad news is that you have to do it at all of the credit bureaus; one will not communicate news of a freeze to the others.
