If new to gnucash, one of the things to learn is about ALL the options for how you want each report that you will use to show. Things like do you want to see subtotals for parent accounts, before or after, do you want zero balance accounts showing, how many levels of nesting, even fundamental things like as of what date << an "Income Statement" is always for some specified period between TWO dates.

You run the report (will be using default options). You then use Edit=>Report Options to open the options menu, and set the options that you prefer. Will stay for THAT report (that run of it) when you have done a "save".

I will repeat, if new to gnucash you won't yet know what options are available to you or what the report will look like depending on how you set them. You'll have to experiment. I know how I want (for example) the "Income Statement" to appear, including things like having the title be "Revenue Statement" or "Statement of Revenues and Expenses" << because I do accounting for non-profits and THAT is the normal title; a business might choose "Profit and Loss" >> I know that I like subtotals after and have deep nesting. You'll need to choose what YOU want.

please see the image where "Auto" is a parent account containing 5 sub
accounts.
When I generate "Income Statement", the "Auto" has $0.00.
[Q]How can I have "Auto" with subtotal "$2,141.81"?

Thanks
