Geoff, Expand the main window to full screen just to make sure you are seeing everything. Next to each of the major Account classes ( Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income and Expense) you will see a solid downward pointing arrow to the left hand side. Click on that to expand the account class. You should either see the accounts you want or other place holder accounts( which will also have the arrow to the left indicating they can be expanded). Keep expanding until the account you want is visible then double click on the icon that looks like a house with columns at the left of the account name and that account should open in its own tab. This is covered in the section in the manual on accounts
