If you are still having issues, please tell us which version of GnuCash you are using, your OS, etc. The way that you described your problem reminded me of a competitive personal finance product that used to treat mutual funds in a strange way without a parent brokerage account. Be sure that you have structured your fund under a separate brokerage account as described in the help manual.
