If you are using Windows 10 the latest update improved Windows Defender.
Look at your messages (bottom right corner of screen and check to see if
defender has blocked it, if so click on the message and it will take you to the
defender window where you can enter gnucash. exe as a trusted app, but you must
do it by starting at C: and work your way through to gnucash.exe and click on
open and gnucash.exe will be added to trusted apps. Hope this helps it worked
for me.
