One more detail: in the General Ledger, when changing the criteria to matches regex, entering .* for the regex and changing type to add results to current search, the new result is not filtered by date as it was originally. In fact, the View > Filter By menu item is greyed out and unavailable. I did not test the condition where the filter setting may have been saved at the beginning of the trial.
