Hi John, Have posted it as Bug 796789 for V3.2. Other users with other OS and GnuCash versions might like to comment on behavior on their systems which may help with tracking down the problem. Not sure whether it is a bug in Ubuntu and derivatives but Libre Office, GIMP with similar dialogs all seem to be able to access the mounted USB sticks and network locations in the file open dialogs.
