Are you sure you're using the right button? To delete an existing split you 
want the delete button, not the cancel button. The delete button is a white 
circle with a red border and a black "X" in the middle. The cancel button, 
which undoes any edits made in the split since it was last committed, is a red 
octagon with a white border, like a "STOP" traffic sign without the word.
