Where are you running SSH from? Is it another 18.04 box? Or is it running 
something older? (or something other than Ubuntu?) I know I’ve had issues in 
the past with Gtk versions on my local machine messing with proper display of 
remote apps.

It's an Ubuntu 17.10 box.
