Unfortunately, this *is* true for the Gmail web interface. (this has no bearing if you use a different client to view your gmail account)
This does not affect the actual thread on the Gnucash Mailman server, or any client that uses the message-id, in-reply-to, or references headers. It only affects the Gmail web interface user.
