Heather, If my memory is correct there were some issues (I can't remember what they were now) with the Windows version of 2.6.16 and there was a 2.6.16-1 release shortly afterwards that fixed the issues. Perhaps you should just download the current version 2.6.17 which was released a couple of days ago and install that instead ? The download link is - https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/
