Thank you for your Feedback David. SQLite is also stored in a single file (SQLite format, not XML). So your Dropbox use case would not change.
Currently, you would have to manually install the SQLite DBD to use this feature. In case of XML deprecation, the SQlite DBD should ideally be bundled with the GnuCash release then.
