The bitcoin cryptocurrency is traded on a site called mtgox.com. However, tracking the mtgox account in gnucash is very difficult. The user balance of bitcoins (BTC) and USD are tracked with a precision of 1/1000. You can spend 0,001 USD.
Currently, it is not possible to do anything with a 1/1000-th of a dollar in gnucash. So one must fall back to a solution where a "MTGOXUSD" commodity is set up which can be used instead of USD on mtgox. Also, the bitcoins themselves must be tracked as a commodity (lika a stock or mutual fund). This gets very cumbersome and does not at all look very good. Could this be a case for user defined currencies in gnucash? /Fredrik Persson _______________________________________________ gnucash-devel mailing list gnucash-devel@gnucash.org https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-devel
