Dear Maik, also from here: Thank you very much for your offer!

Exactly. Thanks Cristian. Just recently "Juergen Hoewener" started to put some significant work into improving the "Guide & Tutorial" document in German language. Before you start working on any untranslated parts or reviewing existing parts, hopefully Juergen will contact you so that you coordinate your work in order to avoid double work. Maybe you will need to pick 1-2 chapters which are untranslated so far, and Juergen works on the others. Or whatever else Juergen and you discuss. In any case, please read the recent discussion on gnucash-de http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-de/2010-October/007546.html and also the full wiki page on Translation which Cristian has already pointed out In particular, the "glossary" explanation is helpful and necessary before a meaningful and consistent translation, either of the program or the guide/tutorial, can be produced. For the guide/tutorial document, you don't use poedit or po files at all. Instead, you either use some texteditor for the xml files (gedit or xemacs are common), or you try e.g. openoffice with the suitable plugin for "docbook xml" files. Once you have some files for contributing, just send them to the mailing list "gnucash-de" because I will see them and commit them to SVN. Thanks a lot!
