GnuCash's default font is gnome's application font. That font info is stored in:

It is generally set by the Appearance applet in gnome-control-center.

Maybe someday I'll take a look to see how gnumeric finally implemented font choices in itself rather than depending on gnome. Especially with the problems gnome-settings-daemon has on the mac these days, it's really a pain to have to use control center to change the application font.

Gconf isn't creating a desktop subdir when it's run from Gnucash.app. It creates a bunch of %gconf.xml files in the apps tree, but they seem to be empty.

Is there a way to force Gconf to create the desktop tree?

Not that I know of. I'm not certain, but I think gconf is expecting other parts of gnome to create the leaves.

But don't consider my answer in any way authoritative -- I just pick up bits and pieces about gnome as I thrash to make it behave.
