now that's I've been able to check again the run-time effect of that weird 
preference, here's my proposal:

Ok. Just treat this as always-on, like your patch does.

I highly doubt whether this extra line has been paid attention to by anyone 
anywhere during the last 2-3 years. I for one haven't realized it is there, 
until now. I see no additional value by this extra line - people interested 
in the euro value can have their assets . I'd vote to throw this extra line 
out completely. 

If the code should still be left in there, we could remove the preference but 
leave the gconf key there (but with a more precise name: "Extra EUR line in 
summary bar", disabled by default), so that interested users can still 
activate it, but normal users don't have to care.
