As of last night this branch built cleanly (modulo the -Wno-unused
flag) AND it passed "make check".   Nice job, guys!

Granted, it requires swig-1.3.28, which is newer than what's
in FC5 -- but a simple backport of 1.3.29 from FC6 and all
is happy.
