If end users are supposed to use "autogen.sh", then I will not be
packaging that release for Debian.  There are way to many problems
that way because versions of libtool et. al. are not reliably
consistent.

Um, the tarball generated by "make distcheck" should just use "configure"
If it does not then there's a bug.
