After downloading the gnucash source, configure informed me that I needed SWIG,
which I then downloaded from
http://www.gnucash.org/pub/gnucash/sources-extra/swig1.1p5.tar.gz
However, there were a couple of problems in the compilation of SWIG (just
gcc-2.95.2 being bitch about ANSI C++ compliance). When I contacted the SWIG
author, he told me that that particular version was known to have problems.
Thus, I suggest you move to a more recent version of SWIG.
