I think I've experienced this one too, and I think I could "trick"
gnucash into showing me what I wanted to see by setting an end date
*way* in the past, and then changing it back to the present or
similar...

That sounds good to me.  I'd also like a function to set that from my
gnucash.{user,auto} files.
