Is your libtool installed in the same tree as autoconf?  For
example, I'm not sure things will work if you have libtool
installed under /usr/local but your autoconf is installed under
/usr.

In any case, libtool is not strictly necessary.  Right after
unpacking the tar file, do what is described in this message:
