I am forwarding this to the general gnucash-devel mailing list.

Here's a quickie: I've been thinking about (and building) parts of the gnucash
subsystem to make them more web-like. For example, the report generation consists of
perl servlets/scriptlets that grab data from the gnucash engine and turn it into html,
which is then displayed by the XmHTML widget. There is no web server involved
(otherwise config & install would really become hairy).

In another case, one of the "print" menu choices turns gnucash into a one-shot
webserver. You say click on print, then aim your browser at gnucash, and it will
serve up one and only one web page only once. This is a toy function, the goal
was really to demonstrate how easy it is to port the "register" to other "i/o" devices
(in this case, http/html instead of motif.)

Finally, I occasionaly think of the register itself as an applet that could be embedded
into a browser, and have that applet talk to the engine via e.g. corba. A *lot*
of work would be needed to make this work. Since gnucash is in C not java, you'd
have to what on the browser to allow this to happen.
