I'm running Arch Linux with testing, mesa-git and linux-mainline, and I ran into an issue last night with an update. I'm not sure what might have caused it, because gnome-shell hasn't been updated since Aug. 22 and is currently at 3.20.4.
I don't have media keys on my keyboard, so I have keyboard shorcuts setup as super++ and super+- for volume up/down. I've had these shortcuts basically forever, and they have always worked. Now, that's not the case. It doesn't appear to be an issue with the specific shortcuts. I can use the other super combo shortcuts just fine. If I change the volume up/down shortcuts, they still don't work, so it's specifically an issue with changing the volume via shortcut. I'm not seeing anything jump out at me in the journal. So I go into the menu on the top right to change my volume, and I notice a brightness slider. I don't use that menu often, so I may be misremembering, but I don't think it was there before. This is a desktop machine, so brightness controls are on the display. The slider is all the way down, and of course moving the slider has no effects except printing a timeout error in the journal. I thought maybe my settings got messed up somehow, so I tried trashing dconf/gconf, but that had no effect (other than me having to reset all of my settings, as expected). I'm appending a list of packages in the last round of upgrades just in case something jumps out to anyone on the list.
