That's actually good there is an application for this already. So instead of publishing the extension into the gnome-shell extensions, just convert your extension to a package and make the original application optionally depend on it and allow the user to select to have that integration, what do you think? We even have support for add-on's in gnome-software, or you can do it inside your application.
