I agree, but a counter-arguement is that if you introduce many built-in statuses you may have issues across the wide range of presence related services that may support only a subset of those statuses. But, you should file a bug report at gnome.bugzilla.org if you really want to see this resolved - or at least considered. Or search to see if such a bug already exists.
