Recently accessed file list is maintained by GTK+, and not gnome-shell. May
be you need to forward this request to GTK+ mailing list. It can be
implemented from gnome-shell side, but it will be a very bad hack.

Recent Documents is taken from main gnome platform. I understand your
argument and I agree with that. You can raise a bug to track the request. If
others feel that it would add confusion, later you can mark it as junk. (as
"recent documents" is widely used in all the platforms, even in windows)

Hmm.. I feel this idea makes sidebar a little clumsy.
Categorization/classification beyond one point actually irritates the user.
User has to use an extra click to browse a document if we introduce tabs.
These are just my opinions and your views are welcome here.

One idea that I am planning to implement is to show recent documents based
on the desktop context.

needed.

and also, ppl like me keep forget colour associations :-), we could display
a small icon in the right bottom side of each document box.

As of now, recent docs can only be opened in their default applications. So,
need to give an option, so that user can choose his fav app. Currently I'm
struggling to make menu widget work. Once it is done, I will probably jump
onto this.

start adding some widgets/functionality to sidebar. May be it is already
raised in our bugtracker, not sure. Could you check it and raise a bug if it
is not raised already.
