There are some possible combining marks in Unicode which can be used for the underlining; I don't know which is conventionally used in Tiv orthography: U+0331 COMBINING MACRO BELOW: fe̱ed fo̱od U+0332 COMBINING LOW LINE: fe̲ed fo̲od In case email programs mangle these, I've put them in a web page: http://www.gnome.org/~tthurman/underlined.html So you can do this if you use UTF-8, at least.
