Philipp in bug 552156[1] pointed out that hamster's date strings are not localizable. It will take some time to come up with a proper solution that would avoid any potential ambiguity, but for now (that is, for 2.24), the strings in question (and they are not so many) have been made accessible to localization.
Please, if you have noticed that hamster's dates in your locale do not look right - update them now.
