This is not correct. The page you quote above is not the official ISO 639 site, nor is it up to date. It clearly says it was last modified in 2001. The official ISO 639 site is http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/, and on the language list page http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/English_list.php you will find that ISO 639 currently only recognizes the English spelling of "Pushto". If you want GNOME to change the language spelling, then please ask the ISO 639 registration authority to change their recommendation first.
