You need to migrate those translations to PO files. Look at http://live.gnome.org/GnomeDocUtilsTranslationMigration While this is sometimes done by developers doing a migration to gnome-doc-utils, it is often not. For some, it will be very easy because translators have already used xml2po before (I'm thinking of uk.po in gnome-applets or gnome-panel, can't remember which).
