I have decided hence forth to no longer contemplate making Docky a side dockable Dock. I have come to this conclusion for several reasons and did not reach it lightly. I admit I put a considerable amount of time and effort into making this a posibility, but the more I develop Docky the more I become convinced it will never be workable.
Unless anyone can provide a very good mockup of how summon mode would work on a side dock, I do not feel it is worthwhile for me to continue developing based on the idea that this will some day be possible. My main concerns are as follows: - Summon mode is ugly no matter how I mock it up - There is LOTS of extra complexity for applets and painting services to have to deal with a left/right orientation. Adapting between top/bottom is relatively easy however. - Most importantly, I now feel that this is having a very large negative impact on the code of Docky. Therefor... I will be branching docky shortly after 0.8.1 and removing all code dealing with side dock implementation and cleaning up any interfaces designed with it in mind. After that merge we will close any feature requests for side dock and pretty much recommend users wishing for a side dock use the AWN rewrite.
